If you’ve previously opted out of our scheme, you can choose to opt back in at any time.

You’ll need to complete the pension option form attached to this page and return it to your employer, who will begin your pension contributions from the start of the next available pay period (likely to be from the 1st of the month after you send in your form).

There's no limit to the number of times you can opt in and out of the scheme, however you won’t be able to join periods of opted out membership together and will receive a pension benefit for each period.

If you're worried about the cost of pension contributions, the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) gives you the option to pay a lower contribution rate by joining the 50/50 section of the scheme.

Automatic enrolment

Please be aware that should you opt out, you'll be automatically re-enrolled back into the scheme by your employer every 3 years in line with the government's auto enrolment legislation.
